Where to base yourself
Cornwall is long and thin, and the two coasts behave completely differently. Pick a coast, then pick a site.
The lie of the land
Two coasts, and they are not the same holiday.
The north coast is Atlantic: surf, cliffs, wind and sunsets over the water. The south is sheltered and wooded, with creeks, ferries and warmer swimming. They are forty minutes apart, so you can have both, but the one you pitch on decides the character of the week.
July and August book out early and the lanes get slow. Shoulder season here is genuinely better: the sea is warmest in September, the coast path is empty, and the sites that are full in August will have space.
